NFL (National Football League): the Facebook and Twitter communities of the franchises (June 2017)

The 32 franchises of the NFL have a cumulative 91.7 million fans on the social network Facebook as of 08/06/2017, an average of 2.87 million fans per team for the US football league. This makes the NFL the second most popular North American sports league on Facebook after the NBA (157.8 million fans, an average of 5.26 million per team) in terms of cumulative fans by the franchises.

The NFL franchises have 2.2 times more fans on Facebook than followers on the Twitter micro-blogging platform (42 million, or 1.3 million on average per teams). The NFL franchises are behind their NBA counterparts (47.2 million cumulative followers, 1.57 million on average per team) on Twitter as well.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most "liked" NFL franchise on Facebook, with 8.7 million fans, a figure that would rank them 17^th among European football clubs with the most fans on the social network (as of 01/06/2017).
