European cups: Sky Italia acquires TV rights in Italy for 2018-2021 (€270m to €290m per year)

Sky Italia has acquired all the audiovisual rights, in Italy, to the Champions League and the Europa League for the 2018-2021 period, on 14/06/2017. The estimated amount paid by the Italian pay-TV group would be between €270m and €290m per year. Mediaset only bid €227m per year for the 2018-2021 cycle.

• Mediaset, Silvio Berlusconi's Italian free-TV and pay-TV group, is the exclusive rights holder in Italy for the 2015-2018 Champions League, acquired on 10/02/2014. The amount of the acquisition was estimated by the Italian media to be €700m, a little more than €230m per season. Sky Italia acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast the 2012-2015 Champions League for an estimated €490m according to the Italian media, or more than €160m per season before sublicensing one part to Mediaset.
