The match between Russia, the host country, and New Zealand, winner of the 2016 OFC (Oceania) Nations Cup, will be the opening match of the 10th edition of the 2017 Confederations Cup on Saturday, 17/06/2017. The final of this competition organised by FIFA, will be held at the Krestovsky Stadium, St. Petersburg (RUS), on Sunday, 02/07/2017.

Since 2005, the tournament has been held every four years in the hosting country of the FIFA World Cup the following year.

The Confederations Cup will consist of eight teams: the six continental champions, the world champion, and the host country. The eight teams of the 2017 edition in Russia are:
• Russia (host country)
• Germany (winner of the 2014 World Cup)
• Portugal (winner of Euro 2016)
• Chile (winner of the Copa America 2016 )
• Cameroon (winner of the 2017 African Cup of Nations)
• Mexico (winner of the 2015 Gold Cup)
• Australia (winner of the 2015 Asian Cup of Nations)
• New Zealand (winner of the 2016 OFC Nations Cup)

  • The next edition of the Confederations Cup will be held in Qatar in 2021, one year before the 2022 World Cup.
