2017 Confederations Cup: Russia - New Zealand opening match on Saturday 17/06/2017

The match between Russia, the host country, and New Zealand, winner of the 2016 OFC (Oceania) Nations Cup, will be the opening match of the 10^th edition of the 2017 Confederations Cup on Saturday, 17/06/2017. The final of this competition organised by FIFA, will be held at the Krestovsky Stadium, St. Petersburg (RUS), on Sunday, 02/07/2017.

Since 2005, the tournament has been held every four years in the hosting country of the FIFA World Cup the following year.

The Confederations Cup will consist of eight teams: the six continental champions, the world champion, and the host country. The eight teams of the 2017 edition in Russia are:
• Russia (host country)
• Germany (winner of the 2014 World Cup)
• Portugal (winner of Euro 2016)
• Chile (winner of the Copa America 2016 )
• Cameroon (winner of the 2017 African Cup of Nations)
• Mexico (winner of the 2015 Gold Cup)
• Australia (winner of the 2015 Asian Cup of Nations)
• New Zealand (winner of the 2016 OFC Nations Cup)

• The next edition of the Confederations Cup will be held in Qatar in 2021, one year before the 2022 World Cup.
