Serie A TIM: Rome City Council classifies AS Roma stadium project as "work of public interest"

The Rome City Council has approved (28 votes for, 9 against, 1 abstention) the construction of the "Stadio della Roma" (52,250 capacity), the future stadium of AS Roma (Serie A TIM), on 14/06/2017. The council classified the construction of the new stadium, in the district of Tor di Valle, southwest of Rome, as "work of public interest".

AS Roma and the Rome City Council announced that they had reached an agreement on the construction of the new stadium on 24/02/2017. The agreement provided for a reduction of 60% of the business park that was in the original project. "There will not be towers anymore, but rather low buildings, integrated into the panorama," said Virginia Raggi, the mayor of Rome.

The project was initiated in 2013 with delivery originally scheduled for the 2016-17 season. A first draft of the project was validated by Ignazio Marino, the then mayor of the city, on 15/06/2015.
