eSports: NBC Sports launches a competition based on the Rocket League video game in summer 2017

NBC Sports Group has launched a new eSport tournament based on the Rocket League video game (a soccer match with cars instead of players) in the summer of 2017, said the sports subsidiary of the two American media conglomerates on 21/06/2017. The competition will be broadcast via the eSport gaming platform Faceit, and the regional, national, and international platforms of NBCUniversal and its parent company Comcast.

The regional offices of NBC Sports, NBC Universal's subsidiary Telemundo Deportes, and NBCU International will host the regional qualifying tournaments in the United States, and the competitions in Europe will be held online. All the regional competitions will be broadcast on the Faceit platform from 22/07/2017. The regional finals will be played in the NBC Sports regional studios on the weekends of 05 and 06/08/2017 and 12 and 13/08/2017, and will be broadcast via NBC Sports and Telemundo En Vivo, as well as on other social network platforms.

The final will see 16 teams compete on 26 and 27/08/2017 for the inaugural title and the $100,000 (€89,300) prize pool. It will…
