Sky: an in-depth investigation demanded by UK authorities on the acquisition by 21st Century Fox

Karen Bradley, the UK minister of culture, media, and sports, has called for an in-depth investigation from the UK Competition and Markets Authority about the acquisition of the British audiovisual group Sky plc by the US media conglomerate 21st Century Fox, stated the minister to the British Parliament on 29/06/2017.

Reappointed on 11/06/2017, Karen Bradley justified this inquiry by using the Ofcom report regarding this transaction. The regulator is concerned about the ability of 21st Century Fox, controlled by the Murdoch family, to influence information "or even the political process" in the UK, given its presence throughout the media, TV, radio, newspapers, and online press. The Murdoch family owns, through its News Corp structure, the British daily newspapers The Times and The Sun.

The government has given the stakeholders until 14/07/2017 to make proposals to limit its influence and thus validate the operation without going through a thorough investigation.
