FIFA: IMG acquires broadcasting rights for ships and aircraft for 2017-2019

The media rights and marketing agency IMG has acquired the broadcasting rights for aircraft and ships from FIFA for the 2017-2019 period, on 29/06/2017. These rights include the recently concluded 2017 Confederations Cup (hosted in Russia), the 2018 World Cup (in Russia), and the 2019 Women's World Cup (in France). The package also includes the rights for the highlights from each of these competitions.

IMG will broadcast these competitions via its Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra channels. IMG launched Sport 24 Extra, a second live sports channel in the free-to-air market, on 01/06/2016. FIFA launched the tender for the international broadcast rights of these competitions for the 2017-19 period on board aircraft and ships on 19/04/2017.

"IMG Media was the holder of the broadcasting rights aboard planes and ships for the 2014 World Cup (Brazil) worldwide, except for Japan where Dentsu held some of the rights.
