Italy: Mediaset holds 100% of Mediaset Premium after the acquisition of the 11.1% of Telefonica

The Italian audiovisual group Mediaset has acquired the 11.1% stake in Mediaset Premium held by the Spanish telecommunications group Telefonica, on 19/06/2017. Mediaset now owns 100% of its pay-TV subsidiary. Mediaset Premium notably includes the Premium Calcio channels, which will broadcast the Serie A TIM in Italy until the end of the 2017-18 season.

Telefonica originally (through its subsidiary Telefonica de Contenidos) acquired 11.1% of the capital of Mediaset Premium SpA on 13/01/2015. The amount of that transaction amounted to €100m, based on a Mediaset Premium net value of €900m.

This acquisition occurs when the French audiovisual conglomerate Vivendi and Mediaset are engaged in a legal dispute over the acquisition of Mediaset Premium by Vivendi (see below).
