Liga: partial opening of the San Mames Barria, Athletic Bilbao's new stadium

Athletic Bilbao (Liga) have inaugurated their new stadium, San Mames Barria, during a league match against Celta Vigo (3-2) on the 16/09/2013. The construction of the new stadium began in June 2010. Its total cost is €211m.

The first match at the San Mames Barria was played in front of 33,000 spectators, as a part of the stadium is not built yet. The new stadium is located a few dozen meters from the historical stadium, San Mames stadium (39,700 seats) where the club played since 1913. It must be destroyed for the construction of the second curve of the San Mames Barria. The infrastructure will have a 53,000-seat capacity at the end of the work. The final stage of the opening is scheduled for spring 2015.
