Altice: agreement with Prisa to acquire Media Capital, a Portuguese media group

Altice concluded an agreement with Prisa, a Spanish media group, to acquire its shares (94.7%) in Media Capital, a Portuguese media group, announced the Dutch holding company of telecom and audiovisual operators on 14/07/2017. Both entities have been in discussions since 26/06/2017. The transaction values Media Capital at €440m.

Media Capital owns TVI, the most watched Portuguese television channel (average audience share of 21.5% in 2016). The Portuguese group also owns Rádio Comercial, the largest radio station in Portugal in terms of audience.

"The acquisition of Media Capital forms part of Altice’s global convergence strategy and follows its path in France, the United States and Israel. Altice is committed to continuing Media Capital’s open platform in the Portuguese market while ensuring its success in a rapidly evolving media and digital landscape," announced Altice, which also owns Portugal Telecom.

  • Media Capital posted a turnover of €174m and an EBITDA Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and impairment of fixed assets of €41.5m in 2016.
