Qatar 2022: Fox media group opposed to the moving of the World Cup in winter (Bloomberg)

American television group Fox opposes any moving by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in the winter instead of June-July as originally planned, according to the U.S. economic information website Bloomberg.com, on the 17/09/2013.

James Murdoch, son of Rupert Murdoch, chairman of 21^st Century Fox reportedly told FIFA that moving the World Cup in winter would clash with Fox Sports' programming, at this time of the NFL (National Football League American Football League) championship.

"FIFA has informed us that they are considering and voting on moving the 2022 World Cup. Fox Sports bought the World Cup rights with the understanding they would be in the summer as they have been since the 1930s," said Fox Sports in an e-mail sent to Bloomberg.

In 2011, Fox Sports had acquired the broadcasting rights to the 2018 World Cup (Russia) and the 2022 World Cup (Qatar) for an estimated $425m (€318m), four times more than what U.S. channel ESPN paid FIFA (around €80m) to broadcast the 2010 World Cup (South Africa) and 2014 World Cup (Brazil)…
