CAF: AFCON increases to 24 teams and moved to June-July from the 2019 edition in Cameroon

"Increasing the Africa Cup of Nations to 24 teams as of the 2019 edition, and the tournament will now be held in the months of June and July. The competition will, however, remain a biennial event (every two years), odd years and exclusively held on African soil with African national teams," was the resolution formulated at the CAF African Football Symposium, in Rabat (MAR), on 18 and 19/07/2017, at which "a consensus emerged" among the Executive Committee of the African confederation, also at the meeting in Rabat on 20/07/2017.

"The CAF Executive Committee reviewed the resolutions of the various working groups of the first CAF African Football Symposium. The Executive Committee advocated the establishment of a working group to work on the implementation of the resolutions and propose short, medium and long term implementation timetables," stated the CAF.

The 55 national federation members of CAF, represented at the Rabat Symposium (MAR) by their presidents, secretary generals, and national coaches, worked on eight workshops:
