AS Monaco, the 2016-17 Ligue 1 champions, faced Paris Saint-Germain, the winners of the 2016-17 Coupe de France, in the 2017 French Super Cup, the Trophée des Champions, played in Tangier, Morocco, on Saturday, 29/07/2017. The Parisian club won 2-1.

Organised abroad since 2009, the Trophée des Champions was held for the fourth time on the African continent (Tunisia, Gabon, and Morocco), and for the second time at the Grand Stade of Tangier, which had already hosted the 2011 edition (Olympique de Marseille - LOSC Lille, 5-4).

"This fixture is a new opportunity to promote the Conforama Ligue 1 in Morocco. Maghreb and Africa are privileged areas for the development (of French football). Moreover, in order to forge links between Moroccan companies and the Ligue 1 Conforama, we will organise, on Thursday 27/07/2017, an economic forum in Casablanca where we will bring together the French clubs qualified in the 2017-18 European Cups and 15 major Moroccan groups, in order to spread out even more in Africa, because Africa and therefore Morocco are very fertile ground for French football,…
