Spain: disciplinary proceedings open against the president of the RFEF who is likely to be suspended

Spain's administrative court of sport unanimously decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Angel Maria Villar Llona, president of the Spanish Federation (RFEF), on 24/07/2017. This procedure could result in the suspension of the officer, arrested on 18/07/2017 and placed in detention on 20/07/2017, as of Tuesday, 25/07/2017.

The Spanihs high council for sport, which asked the Spain's administrative court of sport to assemble, should in turn refer to the case on 25/07/2017 and the disciplinary procedure to legally authorise the suspension of the president of RFEF.

Angel Maria Villar Llona, the president of the RFEF since 29/06/1988, a first vice-president of FIFA, and a vice-president of UEFA, has been accused of various embezzlements (misappropriation, fraud, counterfeiting, corruption). His son, Gorka Villar, former secretary general of CONMEBOL, has also been detained for the same case, as well as Juan Padrón, vice-president of the Spanish Federation in charge of economic affairs.
