Spain: A.M. Villar Llona, president of the Federation, suspended for a reviewable period of one year

"The executive committee of the Consejo Superior de Deportes (Spanish High Council for Sports), under the presidency of José Ramón Lete, unanimously approved the decision of precautionary and provisional suspension of Ángel María Villar (president of the Spanish federation) and Juan Padrón (vice-president in charge of economic affairs) for a reviewable period of one year. The suspension can be reconsidered in terms of how events occur," announced the CSD on 25/07/2017.

"The executive committee met after being informed of the opening of disciplinary proceedings by Spain's administrative court of sport," added the Consejo Superior de Deportes.

Angel Maria Villar Llona, the president of the RFEF since 29/06/1988, a first vice-president of FIFA, and vice-president of UEFA was arrested on 18/07/2017 and placed in detention on 20/07/2017 in the context of an investigation concerning the suspicion of financial malpractices in the organisation of international matches.
