Spain: Juan Luis Larrea, new president of the Federation after the suspension of A.M. Villar Llona

Juan Luis Larrea, the treasurer of the Spanish federation since 1988, has become the president as the oldest member of the executive committee of the RFEF on 25/07/2017, after the suspension for one year, announced on the same day by the Consejo Superior de Deportes (Spanish High Council for Sports), of Angel Maria Villar Llona, who had held this position since 29/06/1988.

Angel Maria Villar Llona, who is also FIFA's first vice-president and vice-president of UEFA, was detained on 20/07/2017 in the context of an investigation concerning the suspicion of financial malpractices in the organisation of international matches.

"The extremely difficult period we are going through will not make us lose confidence in the future. Spanish football is made up of extraordinarily honest people," said Basque Juan Luis Larrea, from Guipúzcoa, a province in San Sebastian (ESP), on 25/07/2017.
