Olympics: Los Angeles opts for 2028, Paris remains alone in the running for the 2024 Olympic Games

"The Olympic and Paralympic Games are back in Los Angeles in 2028!" said Eric Garcetti, Mayor of the Californian city, on Twitter on 31/07/2017. As a result, the Los Angeles 2024 Bid Committee officially took the name of the Los Angeles 2028 Bid Committee.

The IOC published, on 31/07/2017, the host city contract for 2028 after the declaration for the 2028 Games from the Los Angeles Bid Committee. The consequence of the agreement between the IOC and the Los Angeles Bid Committee therefores leave Paris as the only candidate city for the organisation of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, welcomes this very important step towards obtaining the Olympic Games for France in 2024 and remains very committed to win the candidacy of our country with all the French, sportsmen, communities, and all the partners involved in this bid," stated the Presidency of the French Republic on 01/08/2017.
