"The Premier League clubs recorded a total operating profit of €683m in 2015-16. The cumulative decline in operating profit of the Bundesliga clubs, coupled with the rising profitability of LaLiga clubs, put the German league in third place in for the 'big 5' leagues (in 2015-16)," according to the 2017 edition of the" Annual Review of Football Finance", conducted by the UK office of the audit and consulting firm Deloitte and published on 11/07/2017.

"Due to disparities between financial regulations at European and national levels, only Ligue 1 and the Serie A have accumulated operating losses among the 'big 5' leagues in 2015-16," added Deloitte.

About the 2016-17 season, "significant revenue growth from broadcasting rights is expected with new TV rights cycles starting in England, Spain and France, and Germany following in 2017-18, which creates the conditions for a higher potential profitability in the short term, especially in the first year of a new cycle," added the Deloitte annual review.
