Sky Deutschland drew a cumulative 1.73 million viewers for Matchday 1 of the 2017-18 2.Bundesliga season from 28 to 31/07/2017, according to the German pay-TV group on 01/08/2017. This is a record (despite the postponement of the match between 1. FC Heidenheim - Erzgebirge Aue due to inclement weather conditions) for a German second division matchday on Sky Deutschland channels. "Not included in all the above ranges are the call numbers via Sky Go, Sky Ticket, and the out-of-home coverage in the Sky Sportsbars."

This represented a 53% increase in viewers compared to Matchday 1 of the 2016-17 season. The first multiplex of the matchday drew 420,000 viewers on Saturday, 29/07/2017 at 15:30 CET, "more than twice as many as in the last season for an audience share of 3.9%". The second multiplex drew 390,000 viewers on Sunday, 30/07/2017 at 15:30, "again, the range was twice the value of last season, with an audience share of 2.7%".
