Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander), winner of the 2016-17 Champions League (4-1 against Juventus, Serie A TIM, on 03/06/2017), faces Manchester United FC (Premier League ), winner of the 2016-17 Europa League (2-0 against AFC Ajax, Eredivisie, on 24/05/2017), in the 2017 UEFA Super Cup in Skopje (Macedonia), on Tuesday, 08/08/2017 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

The winner of the European Super Cup in 2002, 2014, and 2016 (defeated in 1998 and 2000), Real Madrid will become, in case of victory, the first club to win two consecutive editions since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990.

The winner in 1991 and defeated in 1999 and 2008, Manchester United won the European Super Cup only in the year the triumphed in the UEFA Cup (predecessor of the Europa League). The English club was then beaten in the Super Cup after its two victories in the Champions League.
