Manchester City FC: opening of an esports studio at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City FC Activity: English professional football club Global Partners: • Etihad Airways (airline): shirt sponsor, since 2009-10 (£20m per season) and stadium naming rights (since 2011, £10m per… (Premier League Top English professional football division. 20 clubs. ) has opened a dedicated studio for its esports teams at the Etihad Stadium (Manchester, ENG), announced the club on 06/06/2024.

This space will be dedicated to training, competing and creating content for the club's teams on the video games Fortnite (Epic Games) and EA Sports FC 24 (EA Sports).

Manchester City's EA Sports FC team won the 2024 ePremier League, while the Fortnite team has qualified for the FNCS Global Championship to be held in September 2024.

The creation of this studio is part of the development and expansion of the Etihad Stadium and the infrastructure surrounding the club's home ground, which is due to be completed during the 2025-26 season. The project represents an investment of £300m (€340m) and aims to develop the stadium into "a world-class, year-round entertainment destination in the heart of East Manchester."

  • The project includes:
    • an enlarged North Stand with a total capacity of 60,000 seats (compared to 53,480 at present);
    • the creation of a covered area known as "City Square", including a 3,000-seat fan zone and catering outlets;
    • a promenade and sky bar on the roof of the stadium, a new shop, a museum, as well as a 400-bed hotel and new reception areas;
    • space for businesses to set up and collaborate with the club, City Football Group and Etihad Campus partners.
  • "The stadium infrastructure project will also bring job opportunities and economic growth to the area, building on the club's long-standing investment and commitment to its local community. During the construction phase alone, the equivalent of 890 full time roles will be delivered and the club is working with partners and contractors to ensure local residents are well placed to take advantage of these new opportunities," explained the club.
