Greta Bodino expressed her views at a time when, in December 2024, the Turin club launched its new ESG strategy entitled "Black, White and More", based on six pillars (two environmental, three social and one governance).
"Juventus is listed on the stock exchange, so there is a healthy pressure to respect what is announced. We also have an ESG committee within the club that will steer and monitor the operational implementation of this strategy. Our next step is to prepare a real dashboard with our KPIs, indicators of everything that can be measured, and then present it to the board," continued Bodino.
Putting Juventus' new ESG strategy into practice, involving partners, decoupling the ESG budget from the club's financial results... Greta Bodino answered questions from News Tank Football.
"The club's objective is to maintain a constant commitment, regardless of sporting and financial results" (G. Bodino, Juventus FC)
During the presentation of Juventus' ESG strategy, it was pointed out that of the Italian clubs, only Juventus & AC Milan had already published an impact report. What is the reason for this delay?
This delay, which was pointed out by Tiberio Daddi, a professor at the Sant'Anna College (Pisa, ITA), is not only linked to Italian football, but to other areas as well. The stadiums, diversity, gender equality and many other issues are real challenges in Italy.
Juventus promotes the idea that it is not "just a football club", why is that?
Because that's absolutely the case. The world of football can touch millions of people all over the world. Football is powerful when it chooses causes, but not when it tries to do everything. Doing more to make the world a better place, protecting the planet and educating people about health, inclusion and diversity are all part of our scope.
Juventus' ESG strategy is based on six pillars. How do you ensure that there is comprehensive monitoring of what is being done to achieve the objectives that have been set?
The first aspect of the answer is that people who know me know that when I say something, I do it.
Secondly, we have several levels of control. Juventus is listed on the stock exchange, so there is a healthy pressure to respect what is announced. We also have an ESG committee within the club that will steer and monitor the operational implementation of this strategy.
Our next step is to prepare a real dashboard with our KPIs, indicators of everything that can be measured, and then present it to the board.
Do you think the club will succeed in involving its ecosystem in this ESG policy?
Around ten financial institutions attended the presentation of Juventus FC's ESG strategy »After the presentation of this strategy, I was delighted to see that so many people came to talk to me, ask me questions and congratulate me, especially the banks. Around ten financial institutions attended the event.
The best way forward will be with our sponsors, because tomorrow's relationship with them will be increasingly based on these subjects.
Does this mean that the ESG aspect can be a criterion for choosing new sponsors?
I'd like it to become one over time, as this would allow us to respect our objectives in this area even more.
To develop this ESG strategy, you have drawn up an overview of practices in the world of sport and beyond. Have you identified any particularly inspiring examples?
It's outside sport that I've seen the best developed and most ambitious ESG policies.
If other Italian or foreign clubs ask you questions about your ESG strategy, will you help them?
We'd be delighted to be able to present our strategy to other clubs in order to stimulate the system »Absolutely. For example, a member of Fiorentina

Is the budget allocated to the club's ESG strategy unrelated to Juventus FC's financial & sporting results?
The club's objective is to maintain a constant commitment, regardless of sporting and financial results.

Can football players be involved in a club's ESG strategy?
One of the next steps is to involve players intelligently in these issues. »Football players are young and often aware of certain causes, be it gender equality, the environment or inclusion. One of the next steps for clubs, and Juventus in particular, is to get the players involved in these topics.
Not by force, but intelligently, by seeing what interests them and what causes they are likely to support. Our Juventus Creator Lab
