USA: Amazon's offer matched by Warner Bros. Discovery's bid to retain NBA TV rights post-2025

The deal is valued at $76bn (€69.5bn) over 11 years, or $7bn (€6.4bn) per season, according to the daily. The total amount would therefore be 3.16 times greater than that of the current cycle, with American groups ESPN and TNT Sports (Warner Bros. Discovery) paying $24bn (€21.9bn), or $2.67bn (€2.44bn) per season, for the NBA's domestic media rights over the 2016-2025 cycle.

From 2025, ESPN and NBC will each pay $2.6bn per season, while Amazon will pay $1.8bn to broadcast games from the North American league via its Prime Video platform, according to the American press.

"We have reviewed the offers and matched one of them. This will allow fans to keep enjoying our unparalleled coverage, including the best live game productions in the industry and our iconic studio shows and talent. Our matching paperwork was submitted to the league today. We look forward to the NBA executing our new contract," added Warner Bros. Discovery. According to US media, the NBA is currently studying the American group's offer.


  • Under the new agreement, ESPN would broadcast games on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as the NBA Finals on an exclusive basis, according to American media.
    • NBCUniversal would broadcast regular-season games on Mondays and Tuesdays, while Amazon would get regular-season games on Fridays and Saturdays as well as the Emirates NBA Cup (NBA In-Season Tournament).
    • Broadcasting of the play-offs would be split between the three groups.

  • The American broadcasting groups NBCUniversal, ESPN and Amazon are reportedly close to acquiring the TV rights to the WNBA in the United States from 2025, according to US media outlet The Athletic on 17/07/2024.
  • The deal, estimated to be worth $200m per season (€183m), or a total of $2.2bn (€2bn), would be integrated into the future domestic media rights agreement that the NBA is about to sign with the same broadcasters.
  • The WNBA's domestic broadcasting rights are currently held by ESPN, Amazon and the Ion Television group until 2025 for an estimated $50m per year. The annual deal would therefore be four times higher than the current one.
  • The WNBA is also reportedly looking to market two additional packages of domestic TV rights from 2025, worth a total of $60m, according to The Athletic.
