UEFA and European Leagues have published a sustainability manual for football competition organisers to help them "embed environmental and social responsibility across events of all sizes," on 23 June 2026.

This document offers "practical tools that clubs, leagues and national associations can directly apply to their day‑to‑day event operations," according to UEFA. The solutions put forward are based on a "pick-and-drop" approach, enabling organisations to select and adapt them to the specific needs of their events. The support provided is structured around three phases: before, during and after the event.

This guide draws in particular on best practices implemented by European leagues and clubs. These include mobility solutions from the Swiss Football League Sector: Swiss professional football league, responsible for the organisation and management of the two Swiss professional divisions: Swiss Super League and Challenge League Headquarters: Bern… , water‑conservation leadership from the Eredivisie Dutch first professional division (18 clubs). , autism‑friendly matchday experiences at Waterford FC (SSE Airtricity League) and governance‑focused sustainability efforts at SC Freiburg Activity: German professional football club Main shirt sponsor:• Jobrad (bike leasing) Equipment supplier:• Nike (since 2021-22)For a full list of partners, click here (Bundesliga German professional football first division. 18 clubs. ). "Each example demonstrates how sustainable practices can be customised to local contexts while generating measurable impact," UEFA added.

The publication of this manual forms part of UEFA’s "Football Sustainability Strategy 2030", which aims to "reduce environmental impact while increasing positive social outcomes across European football."
